Dear Stephanie 2024

Dear Stephanie,

If there’s a theme for our friendship this year, it’s clearly how we’re single (double?) handedly going to change the world one tiny piece at a time. We’ve solved sweater fit, and dipped a toe into making designers’ work lives more reasonable. Next up: ensuring that the Toronto People with AIDS Foundation can continue to feed the bodies, hearts, minds, and souls of people living with HIV/AIDS. It’s time to do that thing we all do once a year: ride a bike a ridiculous number of kilometres (you’re on your own there!), and stand over pots of boiling water and colour for a ridiculous number of days to support you in your ride (Us. Clearly out of our minds, us)

From August 4 to 9, 2024, the 26th Annual Toronto PWA Friends For Life Bike Rally in support of people living with HIV/AIDS will hit the road, with participants riding from Toronto to Montreal

As we’ve done since 2014, we’ve created a Special Edition Yarn Colourway to raise funds for the Rally, and to support the work Toronto PWA does to support the health and well being of people living with HIV/AIDS.

May we present 2024’s colour: Nickel Farthing
Because we no longer have pennies in Canada…get it?

Nickel Farthing is a long variegated yarn that loves garter stitch, seed stitch, and other textured stitches, or working side by side with similar colours to create a fade or stripes. The colours are deep violet, a strong turquoise, and a dark teal which grounds the other 2. We took our inspiration from the header image on the Bike Rally website :) The colours shift softly from one to the next, giving a quiet colour change effect that we absolutely love. Want to pair it with other colours? Just ask, and we’ll help you do that.

Since this year’s ride is ending August 9, sales will remain open until the end date of the ride. 25% of the proceeds from each skein of Bike Rally yarn will be donated to the 2024 members of Team Knit: Stephanie Pearl-McPhee, Ken Allen, and Cam McLean

We’ll be offering Nickel Farthing in four bases:

  • CaribouBaa Sock (100% sw merino; 4 ply; 398 m/435 yds per 100 g)
  • Linen Silk Sock (heavy fingering/light sport) (65% silk/35% linen; 4 ply; 384 m/420 yds per 115 g)
  • MCS Sport (heavy sport/light DK) (75% superwash merino/15% cashmere/10% silk; 3 ply; 237 m/260 yds per 115 g)
  • R.O.U.Sport (100% superwash merino; 3 ply; 300 m/328 yds per 100 g)

Pre-orders are now up on the website, with orders shipping approx. 4-6 weeks from ordering.

We'd love to break our record for fundraising for Team Knit this year and we'll provide updates as we go along with the donation amounts. You can also visit the Bike Rally main page for extra details and information on the Ride and its mandate.

Every skein helps a life. Every donation makes a difference. Pretty great, right?

Love Kim, Ron & Victoria
